Motors

Class 1

Purely pedal-assist, up to 20 mph

Class 2

Pedal-assist with throttle-assist up to 20 mph

Class 3

Purely pedal-assist up to 28 mph

Mid-drive

  • Between the pedals/cranks; powers the front sprocket and chain — more efficient
  • Torque-based — motor engages as you press the pedals
  • Smooth power delivery through the chain
  • Great for all kinds of riding
  • Smaller, lighter; typically runs 36V
  • Balanced, low center of gravity
  • Most are 250W (20 mph); some are 350W (28 mph)

Hub-drive

  • In the rear wheel/hub; powers the rear wheel directly — less efficient
  • Cadence-based — motor engages after a full pedal rotation
  • Most include a throttle — no pedalling required
  • Best for road riding or light, non-bumpy trails
  • Bigger, heavier; typically runs 48V
  • Folding options available
  • Motors from 350W up to 500W, 750W, and 1000W

Batteries

The battery is similar to a gas tank on a car — the bigger the battery, the farther you can ride on a single charge. Batteries come in many different styles and sizes.

Care & charging tips

  • Average charge time: 4 – 4½ hours
  • Always charge to full at room temperature
